IMPEL rods are solid boron rods made in the following sizes:

IMPEL rods are used for preventive and remedial (curative) treatment of wood with moisture content which periodically is at fiber saturation point (28-30%) or more.
IMPEL rods are placed in pre-drilled holes in the wood, preferably near the end grain where the uptake of water is highest. The holes should be 1 mm larger in diameter than the rods.
IMPEL rods are typically used in windows frames, laminated beams (boron can pass through the gluelines), wooden roof constructions, wooden beams placed in brick work, fence poles, utility poles and wooden bridges, etc.
IMPEL rods in wood serve as an insurance against fungi attack. When water gets into the wood some of the boron in the IMPEL rod dissolves and diffuses in the moist wood where boron will prevent fungi spores from developing. Diffusion ensures that boron reaches moist parts of the wood which is exactly where the danger of fungi attack lies.
The wood can be immunized quickly before the rods are inserted by filling the holes up with BORACOL 20.
